French cooperative bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has confirmed it was the victim of a cyberattack that led to fraudulent cryptocurrency transactions, after blockchain investigator ZachXBT identified the institution as the target of a suspected $133 million theft.

“Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has been the target of an attack that enabled the execution of fraudulent transactions. The incident is now under control,” the bank said in a statement to Ledger Insights. It added that “this incident has no financial impact on [clients]; their interests are fully protected.”

The bank said it had contacted “the relevant regulatory and supervisory authorities” following the attack. Under the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), which took effect in January, banks must file an initial report on a major ICT incident within four hours of classifying it as such. In France that report goes to the ACPR, which passes it to the European Central Bank for the largest banking groups.
