Czech central bank governor mulled investing in Bitcoin

The Governor of the Czech National Bank, Aleš Michl, told an interviewer that he had considered investing a small amount of central bank funds in Bitcoin as a diversification asset, during an interview with CNN Prima News.

He added, “luckily there are seven board members,” implying that the proposal was rejected. “We can continue to debate about it,” he added. “I was thinking of buying just a few Bitcoins,” he said, emphasizing that he had not considered a significant investment.

The topic came up after Mr Michl emphasized the need for the central bank’s assets to be diversified across foreign currencies and asset classes. Previously the Czech National Bank reduced its gold holdings to eight tons, whereas it is now up at 50 tons, and the Governor plans to increase that to 100 tons over the next 3.5 years.
