Korean IT service provider LG CNS has demonstrated an AI agentic payment system using deposit tokens. The demonstration was part of Project Han River, the Bank of Korea’s wholesale CBDC and tokenized deposit trials.
For the tests, LG CNS and Bank of Korea set up virtual personas for content creators. The AI agent was tasked with developing content that involved searching for the optimal images, audio or video and acquiring elements from multiple creators, with the payment settled using deposit tokens. The buyer and seller agents communicated autonomously.
The demonstration builds on Project Han River’s first phase, which ran from April through June last year. That iteration involved payment trials that included 80,000 people using the deposit tokens for online and bricks and mortar retail payments. LG CNS developed the platform, with seven banks involved: KB Kookmin Bank, NH Nonghyup Bank, Busan Bank, Shinhan Bank, IBK Bank, Woori Bank and Hana Bank.
