Nairobi Securities Exchange partners Tether for tokenization

Yesterday the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tether to explore tokenization using Tether’s Hadron platform. The two will work together on KYC and AML compliant onboarding and will also consider the use of USDT for settlement “to enhance market liquidity and attract greater capital flows”.

“We are exploring innovative technologies to modernize market infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency and broaden investor access while maintaining the highest standards of market integrity,” said Frank Mwiti, CEO of the NSE. Tether will also support an education program on DLT and tokenization, targeting brokers and retail investors.

The Tether MoU is the latest in a series of technology partnerships for the exchange. Last year the NSE created an Innovation Lab with the Hedera Foundation and Hashgraph as its first strategic technology partners. Digital assets and tokenized instruments are one element of a broader innovation initiative. However, yesterday’s announcement did not mention the Lab.
