UK, SG asset management associations join Project Guardian for tokenization

The Investment Association (IA) and the Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) have joined Project Guardian, the initiative that explores blockchain and asset tokenization and is led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

It operates as an international sandbox where 27 global institutions collaborate to help develop supportive frameworks. Project Guardian involves regulators and policymakers from six countries, plus the IMF and World Bank. The initiative has published papers across three workstreams: foreign exchange, fixed income and wealth and asset management.

The IA and IMAS are the first trade associations to represent the investment management sector within Project Guardian. They join six other associations, including the GFMA, ISDA and Swift.

“Tokenization offers real potential to enhance cross-border access and efficiency while reducing costs, making investments accessible,” said Carmen Wee, CEO of IMAS. “A trusted and inclusive digital economy must be built on connectivity and cooperation.”
