Barclays invests in stablecoin clearing network Ubyx

Barclays has made a strategic investment in Ubyx, a US-based clearing system for tokenized deposits and regulated stablecoins that enables redemption directly into bank accounts. The investment amount was not disclosed.

Ubyx was founded by Tony McLaughlin, who conceptualized and architected Citi’s Regulated Liability Network for tokenized deposits before launching the venture in March 2025. The company raised $10 million in seed funding in June 2025 led by Galaxy Ventures, with participation from Founders Fund, Paxos, Payoneer and others.

The platform addresses a gap in stablecoin infrastructure by providing banks and fintechs with a network to redeem stablecoins and tokenized deposits into recipient bank accounts, eliminating the need for users to go through crypto exchanges.
