Samsung partners Ledger, Amazon for European NFT launch

Samsung Germany is deploying a free NFT drop as an incentive for its upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S23 phone later this month. The first Samsung NFT drop in Europe involves a three-way promotion with Amazon and hardware wallet company Ledger.

During the first phase, customers could prequalify for Samsung’s community NFT, the Samsung MX1 Genesis Edition by February 1. One of the avenues was to buy a Ledger Nano.

Later in February, the MX1 ARTCollection NFTs will launch, involving well known NFT artists. To qualify for the free drop, users must either buy the ‘Samsung x Ledger web3 Starter Bundle’ or the Samsung Galaxy S23 on Amazon by February 16. The web3 starter bundle includes a Samsung phone, a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet that supports NFTs and a €100 Amazon voucher.

“There is an unbelievable fascination with Web3. Our Starter Bundle with Ledger is aimed at anyone who is open-minded and curious about diving into the inspiring world of NFTs and digital art, or simply wants to trade cryptocurrencies,” said Mario Winter, Vice President of Marketing at Samsung Electronics GmbH.

The collaboration is not new, as Samsung invested in Ledger in 2019. That’s by no means its only web3 investment. It launched a blockchain-enabled KlaytnPhone  targeting the popular Korean blockchain Klaytn. And it was an early investor in Dapper Labs, the company known for popular NFT offerings such as CryptoKitties, NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day. More recently, it invested in The SandBox metaverse.

In its home country, Samsung NFTs can be used for offline shopping rewards and it launched its own NFT platform on its smart TVs.

The electronics firm is also no stranger to the metaverse, with a presence in web3’s Decentraland as well as Roblox.
