Toyota Finance sells second digital bond directly to consumers via mobile app

Toyota Finance has launched its second digital bond in Japan, but with a notable shift in approach. This time it is selling the security token directly to retail investors through the TOYOTA Wallet payment app, bypassing the securities firms that distributed its first issuance in March 2025. The self distribution model is a first for the Toyota Group.

Investors don’t need a brokerage account. They simply download the app, apply through a dedicated page and enter a lottery for allocation. Applications opened yesterday and close 2 September, with issuance on 27 October.

The bond matches last year’s in size at ¥1 billion ($6.3 million) with the same ¥100,000 ($630) minimum denomination and one year maturity, underscoring its experimental nature.
