Visa to integrate stablecoin platform with Pismo, flags acquisition appetite

Visa will integrate the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP) with its Pismo subsidiary and is willing to pursue acquisitions across the stablecoin stack, CEO Ryan McInerney disclosed during the company’s Q3 earnings call. McInerney framed the company’s stablecoin involvement around four modes of participation, stating Visa will engage “whether through building Visa products and services, integrating with partners, investing, or acquiring.”

The stablecoin platform launched earlier this month as an enterprise environment for minting, redeeming and transferring stablecoins, beginning with OpenUSD. The Pismo integration and acquisition appetite were not part of that announcement.

The Stablecoin Platform infrastructure will be integrated with Pismo, Visa’s cloud native issuer processing and core banking subsidiary. The move brings stablecoin minting, movement and management capabilities into a processor already embedded in bank infrastructure. Separately, McInerney said Pismo can already support tokenized deposits for financial institutions and plans to add third party tokenized deposit infrastructure providers in the future.
