Meta now supports stablecoin payouts to creators in Colombia and the Philippines, according to an update to the company’s business support pages. For now it only supports USDC payments on the Solana and Polygon blockchains. Stripe is providing the payments infrastructure for Meta via its Link product and is also handling crypto-specific tax reporting. Facebook paid creators nearly $3 billion in 2025.
In February it was rumored that Meta was talking to providers about stablecoins, resulting in an emphatic response by Meta’s Communications Director Andy Stone that there would be no Meta stablecoin. It is almost seven years since Meta (then Facebook) unveiled plans for the Libra stablecoin, which triggered a united negative response from global central banks and regulators. It resulted in many central banks exploring CBDCs as an alternative.
This was during President Trump’s first term, and he also opposed the idea. “Facebook Libra’s virtual currency will have little standing or dependability. If Facebook and other companies want to become a bank, they must seek a new Banking Charter and become subject to all Banking Regulations, just like other Banks, both National and International,” he said. He is now a vocal advocate for stablecoins, which do not require a banking charter, although several of the larger issuers have received conditional national trust charter approvals from the OCC.
